In July 2020, we added the strapline THE GLOUCESTERSHIRE FOOD PUB, to our identify.  Our Cheltenham based free house is well known for its independent streak and commitment to traditional pub values. We further evolved our product offering to encompass everything that is great about the Gloucestershire larder. Working with renowned local producers, the pub now sources nearly all food and drink from Gloucestershire and the neighbouring three counties.

Simon Daws proprietor since 2010 believes “Food provenance has always been fundamental to how we operate, and the new image is a formalise evolution of what we have always done…. championing the sublime products and skills of local farmers and drink producers.”

We trade with 2 local family-owned butchers, our eggs travel 2 miles, and our dairy, flour, breads, and ice creams are all sourced from small independent businesses.  Of course, a great choice of beer and cider is widely available, and we continue to feature local brewers and cider makers.  A big leap for many customers will be buying English wine and Gloucestershire’s Three Choirs Vineyard are represented on our list.

We have been fortunate enough to have our Head Chef and fellow Director Shawn Bound since day one and he too is proud to champion all things Gloucestershire.

“We want to showcase amazing local produce for the sake of both quality and support of the county’s economy, throw in the upside to the environment of food miles and it has to be the only way forwards.

We ourselves employ local people and the snowball effect of spending money with independent local businesses will become an essential post-script to Brexit.  Let us grow it locally, cook it locally, and enjoy it locally.”

We are proud to fly “The Severn Cross” outside our pub, representing the water of the River Severn (blue), the Golden Valley (green), and the Cotswold Stone (cream).

Our food suppliers include:  Court Farm, Gloucester Sausage Co, Shipton Mill, St George’s Bakery, Bennetts Ice Cream, Total Produce, Cheltenham Cheese Co,  Hayles Fruit FArm

Drink Suppliers: Clavell & Hind, Stroud Brewery, Bristol Beer Factory, Wye Valley Brewery, Purity Brewery, Westons Cider, Robinsons Cider, Three Choirs Vineyard, Bottle Green Cordials, Hayles Fruit Farm

Others always being researched and added…..

We’ve just discovered this pub despite living in the area for years. The building is beautifully quirky. The food was delicious, the portions huge and the welcome very friendly. The kids food was especially impressive with the usual kids fare cooked to a very high standard (keeping my son happy) and the option of small portions from the adult menu suiting my more adventurous daughter. We will definitely be back soon
